The Story Behind the Sticker

This design started as a friendly jab at a serious Mustang enthusiast. His lowered, modified GT—with a Coyote engine and high-ethanol track fuel—is built for quarter-mile fun and receives all the pride and attention you would expect.

And this isn’t coming from someone who dislikes Mustangs. I’ve owned several myself. My first was a new Fox-body Mustang GT with T-tops, blue-and-gray two-tone paint, a 302 V8, and a four-speed manual transmission. Later in life, I owned a 1970 Mustang fastback that had unfortunately been covered in dull white paint, hiding its original pine-green two-tone finish underneath.

Then along comes my ordinary-looking Volkswagen ID.4.

An electric crossover may not look like a drag-strip challenger, but instant electric torque makes it surprisingly quick away from a stop. Mustang drivers don’t always see it coming—and that moment of surprise inspired the line:

“Faster Than Your GT! And I Drive for Free!”

The “drive for free” part celebrates charging from home solar power. It’s classic muscle-car enthusiasm meeting quiet electric acceleration, with a little renewable-energy mischief thrown in.
